Reasons to Join

Upon retirement, you are no longer a member of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society. That’s where we come in.

Since 1989, the Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba (RTAM) has been the voice for more than 10,000 retired teachers, serving their interests and advocating for their welfare.

Benefits of RTAM Membership

Our strength lies in our collective voice and in development of partnerships with provincial and national organizations like the Manitoba government, all political parties, the Manitoba Teachers’ Society, the Teachers’ Retirement Allowance Fund (TRAF), the Manitoba School Boards Association, the Manitoba Seniors Coalition and the Canadian Association of Retired Teachers (ACER-CART).

For $3.00/month deducted from your TRAF pension, you can enjoy RTAM benefits like:

  • Access to comprehensive, economical travel insurance plans
  • Access to competitive extended health and dental insurance plans
  • Pension support and political advocacy
  • Great incentives and discounts through our partners
  • Pre-retirement and wellness seminars/activities
  • Opportunity to nominate a relative for a $1,000 post-secondary student award
  • Annual bursary awarded to a qualified Indigenous student at University College of the North
  • Free subscription to RTAM’s quarterly magazine and monthly e-newsletter
  • Ability to join an RTAM chapter or special interest group

Sign up for RTAM membership on your TRAF Pension Application Form, or visit the membership section of our website.

Advocacy

By joining RTAM, you have a voice with Manitoba’s provincial leadership and ministers. We advocate for your defined benefit pension plan and working conditions for retired teachers who are substituting. We also work with senior-oriented groups on other key issues.

Community and Volunteering
